The state legislature in alcohol-unfriendly Utah is considering a bill that would require bars and restaurants to prepare all alcoholic beverages behind a 10-foot wall. A Senate committee approved the measure, designed to protect children from the tempting sight of drinks being mixed. Liquor commissioner Gordon Strachan voiced his opposition. â’Not only is the cost significant,â’ said Strachan, â’it makes Utah look even stranger.â’ If you would like to see this bill go the Utah State Legislature office online. While reading the bill a few lines peaked my interest: removes restrictions related to election days; changes the insurance and...

Failures of McCain
McCain loosing the 2008 Presidential Election had many factors. The one point to make is that McCain lost both electoral and popular vote. Therefore the evaluation of all the factors has a direct affect towards the populous vote. Pre Convention While seeking the party nomination it has been historically about speaking to the base. – McCain did not do that. McCain kept his ‘maverick’ policies. The problem affected the base so much that popular republicans publicly voiced their support for Clinton after all other candidates dropped out and McCain was the only remaining choice. What were the issues? “Amnesty”...
Palin Tax Problems
Contributing editor Lee A. Sheppard of Tax Analysts, the nonprofit publisher of Tax Notes and other print and online publications, raises the thorny question in “Palin’s Reimbursement Problem” in this week’s Tax Notes. Did Sheppard find a problem with Palin’s return? “Darn right we found a problem,” she writes with her typical flair, “and we’re going to speak directly to the American people about it.” “In 2007,” she writes, “Sarah Palin received $60,441 in reimbursements from the state of Alaska for travel expenses and per diems for days she worked outside the state capital. All of these items were...
What small-town America thinks of Sarah Palin | Salon News
There can be no doubt that the addition of Sarah Palin to the Republican ticket dramatically altered the presidential race, inspiring a once wary conservative evangelical base to get behind John McCain, and giving new momentum to his campaign. But how is Palin playing in towns across the American heartland? In the weeks since the Republicans held their national convention, small-town coffee shops, laundromats and bars have been buzzing with talk about the “pitbull with lipstick” and her sudden rise to national prominence. In dozens of interviews across battleground states in the Midwest and Mountain West, where I’ve been...
McCain Doesn’t Buy American
In an interview a few weeks ago with a Detroit TV station, John McCain said, “I’ve bought American literally all my life, and I’m proud.” It turns out that John McCain wasn’t being straight with the people of Detroit-in fact, John McCain owns 13 cars, including a foreign made Lexus, a Volkswagen, and a Honda Sedan-on top of the Toyota Prius that he bragged about buying just last year. People are free to buy any kind of car they want-that isn’t the issue here. What is the issue is that the American auto industry, and American voters, deserve a...
