McCain loosing the 2008 Presidential Election had many factors.  The one point to make is that McCain lost both electoral and popular vote.  Therefore the evaluation of all the factors has a direct affect towards the populous vote. Pre Convention While seeking the party nomination it has been historically about speaking to the base. – McCain did not do that.  McCain kept his ‘maverick’ policies.  The problem affected the base so much that popular republicans publicly voiced their support for Clinton after all other candidates dropped out and McCain was the only remaining choice. In an interview a few weeks ago with a Detroit TV station, John McCain said, “I’ve bought American literally all my life, and I’m proud.” It turns out that John McCain wasn’t being straight with the people of Detroit-in fact, John McCain owns 13 cars, including a foreign made Lexus, a Volkswagen, and a Honda Sedan-on top of the Toyota Prius that he bragged about buying just last year. “We see it in our stores every day — working men and women living paycheck to paycheck and making more and more difficult decisions,” Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. President and CEO Lee Scott, I bet those hard working men and women are actual employees. NPR: Obama Will Lose

NPR has put up a map (NPR: 2008 Election Map Obama vs McCain) that is not only National data but includes local affiliate data, and Obama will lose. So, why is the DNC not supporting Clinton?
