McMansions Are Just Too Tacky
A new study provides a first glimpse of exactly what people find offensive about super-sized houses which have sprouted up in neighborhoods around the country. Researchers found that people particularly dislike when these large homes, often derisively called â’McMansions,â’ are more than two times as tall as surrounding homes, and when their architectural style is not compatible with the neighboring homes. Socially Rejected People Often Better Judge of Sincerity. Being rejected by peers, friends and even family members may give people the added advantage of spotting a â’fakeâ’ when they encounter one. A Miami University study published in the October issue of the journal Psychological Science shows people who have faced rejection have an enhanced ability to determine whether the â’happyâ’ face before them is genuine.
