SIRIUS XM Radio today (May 28, 2010) announced that a free Android application is now available, giving users of supported Android-powered smartphones access to over 120 channels of exclusive sports, talk, entertainment, news, comedy and commercial-free music over cellular and WiFi networks.

The SIRIUS XM App for Android-powered smartphones allows users to:

• Listen to over 120 channels of SIRIUS XM Premium Online programming on the go, even while surfing the web or checking email.
• Bookmark SIRIUS XM Premium Online channels for fast, easy access through a “Favorites” function.
• View the current channel plus what is playing on all other channels via the “Lookaround” function.

The SIRIUS XM App is available by visiting www.siriusxm.com/android.  The SIRIUS XM App is compatible with a variety of Android-powered smartphones, including:

• DROID by Motorola,
• DROID INCREDIBLE by HTC,
• DROID ERIS by HTC,
• HTC Hero,
• T-Mobile G1,
• Motorola CLIQ, and
• Google Nexus One models.

After downloading the free App, users can register for a 7-day free trial to SIRIUS XM Premium Online on their compatible smartphones.

In celebration of the annual 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France, Audi of America and Xbox/Turn 10 will again join forces to host the 2nd Annual AXF-24 Challenge, a four-hour Xbox LIVE Forza Motorsport 3 racing experience at the Audi Forum New York City on June 12, 2010 between 1 pm and 5 pm.

The first leg of AXF-24 Challenge opened with North American players on Xbox Live competing for the fastest lap times on the 24 Hours of Le Mans track: the Circuit de la Sarthe, while piloting the 2009 Audi #2 Audi Sport Team Joest R15 TDI.  The three fastest drivers will be invited to compete in the AXF-24 Challenge on June 12th in New York City, which takes place while the real race takes place in France.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race is held in Le Mans, France, on an 8.5-mile track made up mostly of public roads.  It is considered one of the top three races in the world, along with the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500. This year will bring the 78th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, which began in 1923 but was canceled for nine years during World War II. Audi has won eight of the last 10 years at Le Mans.

The top prize for the winning AXF-24 competitor will be a 1-day R8 Audi sports car experience package in Sonoma, CA.

Audi, Xbox and motorsports fans planning to be in the New York City / Tri-State region on June 12th are invited to come to the Audi Forum New York City to watch the competition unfold and enjoy:

• Live feed of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race
• Playable Forza Motorsport 3 kiosks

Discussions of Apple’s strict control over the app store often do not mention that you can deploy cross platform apps using web applications. HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS should allow you to create compelling, applications without having to distribute through Apple. “I am convinced that the HTML5 app route is the best one for a fat slice of the non-game iPhone apps currently out there, especially those that are simple and face stiff competition. Increased interoperability will help them more than a relative lack of eye candy will hinder them. The problem is convincing clients of that.” (Read More . . . )

Sad News

DirecTV and the Yes Network are planning to televise what they say will be the first Major League Baseball games in 3-D. The New York Yankees vs. Seattle Mariners games on July 10 and 11 will be aired in New York, Connecticut, Washington, Oregon, Alaska and parts of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Montana and Idaho.

Why is this sad . . . less than .000001% have 3D television. Even so, if you color blind, have epilepsy, loss of sight in one eye or the money to pay for the glasses. You can’t use a generic 3D glasses, your 3D television works with their 3D glasses — which means you can’t take your Panasonic TV 3D glasses to your friend’s house to watch 3D on their Samsung TV.  Bummer, at $150 (minimum) per 3D glasses it gets pretty expensive.  Anyone who has a 3D Television will be limited to company.

Google has announced that it will reinstate the use of the gmail.com domain for British Gmail users.

The domain name was pulled after a trademark row broke out, leading to the firm using googlemail.com for its UK users. Early adopters who got assigned accounts ending in gmail.com were able to keep their accounts, however.

The firm announced that those users who were assigned accounts on the googlemail.com domain can choose to change. Google also confirmed that new Gmail accounts created “later this week” will be assigned to the gmail.com domain.
