I’m A Box Jockey

I’m A Box Jockey

The Problem(s) We have 4 computers and 3 cell phones in our house. All of which have music and picture collections on them. We need to backup the data on all of our computers. My computer has customer and project data. My wife’s computer contains her work files. The kid’s computer(s) have game data and homework on them. And as stated above, all machines/cell phones have music and pictures. If we loose any of the data on just one of these devices our life could be hell. Especially mine since I’m the IT person of the house. The Solution...

I’ve compiled a list of sessions that I attended at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2008. All of the sessions other than the keynote were covered by non-discloser agreements so I can’t go into great details. Network Operations In A Fish Bowl

Network Operations In A Fish Bowl

This year at WWDC Apple had the idea to place their Network Operations Center (NOC) behind glass walls. It’s awesome! Although, in the photo above, there is a horrible light reflection on the glass. Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid

Don’t Drink The Kool-Aid

The above picture was from my iPhone as I waited in line for the keynote address at Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2008 in San Francisco. Every time there was a pause in moving, everyone would drop to the floor and open their laptops. Guess what they were doing? That’s right…blogging! What I’m enjoying most at this conference is a building full of experts that I can talk to about development ideas, issues and solutions. I also really appreciate the fact that I’m here at the conference and have been able to interact with Apple engineers, developers and technologists....

Little Fish Big Pond, Big Fish Little Pond

Little Fish Big Pond, Big Fish Little Pond

I received my first computer around 1980. It was a Commodore Vic-20 with a cassette drive. Later, in 1985, I saved my lawn mowing money and upgraded to a Commodore 64 with a 1541 disk drive. In 1994 I purchased my first computer with the Microsoft Windows operating system. Ever since that day, it’s been computers that run the Microsoft Windows operating system. I’ve had them all, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 (second edition), Windows Xp and Windows Vista. Needless to say, I’ve always developed (professionally) for the Windows platform. Last year it came to my attention that...
