Changes the California Constitution to eliminate the ability of married couples to get divorced in California. Preserves the ability of married couples to seek an annulment. Summary of estimate by Legislative Analyst and Director of Finance of fiscal impact on state and local government: Savings to the state of up to hundreds of millions of dollars annually for support of the court system due to the elimination of divorce proceedings. Proponent: John Marcotte
Jahn Marcotte, who runs the comedy site BadMouth.net in his spare time, said he has received support from across the political spectrum. In addition to encouragement from gay marriage advocates, he has been interviewed by American Family Association, a Mississippi-based organization that contributed to last year’s Yes on 8 campaign.
Marcotte, who is Catholic and voted against Proposition 8, views himself as an accidental activist. A registered Democrat, he led a “ban divorce” rally recently at the state Capitol in Sacramento to launch his effort and was pleasantly surprised at the turnout.
Now every state that ban same-sex marriages should also ban divorce. If the right to marriage is limited to a select few then the right to dissolve the marriage should be illegal. For every straight divorce a same-sex marriage should be allowed.
Just food for thought.
