Black Friday Isn’t Necessary or a Requirement For a Happy Life

buy_nothing_day_091966 “Black Friday” is the name which the Philadelphia Police Department has given to the Friday following Thanksgiving Day. It is not a term of endearment to them. “Black Friday” officially opens the Christmas shopping season in center city, and it usually brings massive traffic jams and over-crowded sidewalks as the downtown stores are mobbed from opening to closing.

There are now reported death of men, women and children trampled while running into stores for deals.  Is your life worth a gift?  Stay home this Black Friday.  The only real way to save money is to not spend.  Just because an item has a lower sticker price doesn’t mean Black Friday is the only way to get that price.  There is a new trend . . . buy after the holidays.

So this November 27 (November 28 in Europe and overseas) listen to the call for a Wildcat General Strike. The Buy Nothing Day wants people around the world to bring the capitalist consumption machine to a grinding – if only momentary – halt.

Buy Nothing Day want you to not only stop buying for 24 hours, but to shut off your lights, televisions and other nonessential appliances. Buy Nothing Day want you to park your car, turn off your phones and log off of your computer for the day.

If you have to shop, avoid the malls and box stores.  Shop on Main Street.
