Xbox 360 Goes Social

By rhea

In an interview with Fast Company, the general manager of Xbox Live says Facebook and Twitter will make its official debut on Tuesday.

The new features, which will be made available in the form of a network update, will allow Xbox 360 owners to access their Facebook pages and Twitter accounts via the online service.

“We look at things like Facebook and Twitter as amazing social experiences, but also entertainment,” Xbox Live general manager Marc Whitten tells Fast Company.

The layout for both social networking sites will follow the overall design of Xbox Live, where players scroll across various panes to choose options. For example, the Facebook panes include a status update, photos and the news feed.

Overall, Facebook and Twitter look slick on Xbox and are relatively easy to navigate. However, users may want to consider using the touchpad for typing, since using the controller by itself can be annoying.

The report comes as Xbox rival PlayStation 3 recently added Netflix functionality to the console through a Blu-ray disc. There have also been rumors of the PS3 also adding Facebook support in the coming months.

This made my husband very, very unhappy. He hates all social networking sites and does not want it on "his 360".
