Facts of the Day

The British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was half-American and one sixteenth Iroquois. He was not (as some sources allege) born in a ladies lavatory. He was dyslexic and failed the entrance exam for the Royal Military College, Sandhurst three times. In 1908, he was initiated into an order of Druids.

Quote of the Day

“In Iroquois society, leaders are encouraged to remember seven generations in the past and consider seven generations in the future when making decisions that affect the people.” Wilma Mankiller

Picture 1The “Blog” of “Unnecessary” Quotation Marks
Do you like “reading” websites? It is standard in the US to put all end punctuation (periods, commas, question marks, exclamation points) inside quotation marks. The writer, Bethany, went to a Canadian high school and the English teacher taught her that when the quotation marks are ironic or setting off a word or phrase because you are talking about the word itself, then the punctuation goes outside.  (link to site . . .)
