Quite Interesting Facts of the Day

The two-foot long bird called a Kea that lives in New Zealand likes to eat the strips of rubber around car windows.

Quote of the Day

â’To get to know a country, you must have direct contact with the earth. It’s futile to gaze at the world through a car window.â’ Albert Einstein

Software Videos

iTunes has competition, DoubleTwist.

The doubleTwist software is cosmetically very similar to iTunes but, unlike Apple’s software, allows owners of iPods, BlackBerrys and hundreds of other devices to manage their media libraries and even buy music downloads via Amazon. DoubleTwist allows iPod users to break free from Apple’s locked down iPod-iTunes ecosystem and play their iTunes music library on any device.

Here is the fun part, DoubleTwist recreated the orginal 1984 Apple Commercial to introduce themselves to the world.  Awesome.  I wonder what Apple’s response?  Here are the commericals, the Apple original fist and then the new DoubleTwist following.

Are You Ready?
Microsoft will issue 13 bulletins to address 34 security vulnerabilities across a wide range of Microsoft products including 8 critical 2 which have already being exploited. So this is why you don’t do Windows 7! Read post 7 Sins of Windows, again. (news factor . . .)

Windows 7 Divided into 4
Every single operating system, other than Microsoft, has only one version. If you want to run Windows XP applications you can’t have the bottom two tiers, you have to get the more expensive Windows 7 versions. Windows is also a computer hog, here is what you need minimally to run Windows 7:

  • 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)
  • 16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)
  • DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
  • If you want to run Windows XP software you will need additional 1 GB of RAM, an additional 15 GB of available hard disk space, and a processor capable of hardware virtualization with Intel VT or AMD-V turned on.

You are looking at a very expensive computer.  Just don’t do it! Stick with XP or move towards Ubuntu.(microsoft . . .)

Call Him Flipper, Flipper!
Blind only in the sense a 7 year old boy can’t see out of his eyes. Don’t worry, it is not gross it is just a Dolphin thing. (abc . . .)

He’ll make you glad, yes, that’s what he’ll do,
And what he can do you’ll never believe,

Oracle Finally Does HTML
Developers want more control, only want to use Adobe Flash if they want — so Oracle finally listened. Programmers are actually happy and content to be back in control.  (info world . . .)

Microsoft Answer to Google Docs
Microsoft watered-down versions of Word and Excel will be available. The Office Starter 2010 product will be funded by advertising and offer basic functions for creating and viewing documents, Microsoft said. The company aims to get at least some users to upgrade to full versions of Office — a suite of programs that includes word-processing, spreadsheets and presentation software. The program replaces the Microsoft Works product, which the company has put on some computers as a free way to provide basic word processing. PC makers have a choice of what, if any, Office to include on their machines. This is only available for new computers. Better solution : OpenOffice – get it all for free! (pc world . . .)

Car Uses Less Energy Than Toaster.
When I say toaster, I am not talking about those high-end toasters with the extra wide bagel settings, mean those little toaster with a knobby thingy. Basically the car can go 54 mpg on 1.3 kilowatts.  It also goes 5 hours without sun, that is cool. (the age . . .)

Worst Commercial, Ever
If you don’t change energy habits little puppies will drown and bunnies will cry. I think change is neccesary because Global Warming is real, but keep Benji and Thumper out of the storyline. (times online . . .)

How Different is Football & Dog Fighting?
The NFL/Dog Fighters missuses individuals/dog for the sole purpose of money and aggression.  When a footballer/dog is of no use what’s next? Many footballers/dogs are just left to fend without hope or anything skill except being the football player/dog fighter. It is time the NFL reinvents itself and stop using the NCAA and High Schools as free recruiting tools. The NFL is failing the fans & athletes. (the new yorker . . .)

It is not all Protests, Corruption and Greed
Washington DC The Mall held this year’s Solar Decathlon. A student competition for high-tech homes. Some  cost well over $700,000 and simpler ones that could be made for as little as $80,000. (solar decathlon . . .)

Remember Florida?
Workers have found a crack in a concrete containment wall at the Crystal River nuclear power plant, but officials say the half-inch-wide gap doesn’t pose a danger. Question, if there is no danger why is it shut down?  Why are specialist sent to overseas issues? It was nice knowing you Florida. (nei magazine . . .)
