Tech Soapbox Rant

Microsoft Big Rip Off
soapboxWindows 7 is the biggest tech rip off for the next 5 years. Basically Windows 7 is Windows Vista, with a service patch.

2008 I bought a new laptop with Vista pre-install and I tried to install my programming software with Vista warning me that my expensive software will not function in Vista. Only solution, go back to Windows XP. Windows XP was made available October 2001. It five years later when Microsoft produced Vista. One year later . . . Poof! Magically, Microsoft unveils Windows 7. It is technically impossible to build an entirely new Operating System in under a year. Programmers would have to work 24/7, collaboration, testing, team work, alpha testing, beta testing, marketing . . . and so on. Microsoft has the Marketing down, but will people buy or upgrade to Windows 7?

Randall C. Kennedy, a writer for PC World, did an analysis of the changes (or lack of them) that consumers might see. The more Kennedy dug into Windows 7, the more he became convinced that he was dealing with an “OS that was a slightly tweaked, nearly baked revision of Windows Vista”. Why is Microsoft making people pay for a service patch?

Ubuntu is where you should start looking for your daily computer needs. Don’t take my word for it, cnet wrote, “Ubuntu is now as slick and beautiful as Mac OS X or Windows 7″. Read more about the overview between Ubuntu, Mac OS X and Windows 7.
