$85 Billion Put to Better Use

September 18, 2008

Now that the Bush Administration haned over $85 Billion dollars to AIG, instead of allowing it to bankrupt, which is being paid by our taxes.  What else could the United States spent our taxes . . .

Universal Health Care

The cost of universal health care would be at least $34-$69 billion, plus whatever costs are associated with covering out-of-pocket expenses and uncompensated care for the non US Citizens. The potential savings on paperwork would be more than $350 billion per year.

Free Education

The cost of paying for all students in a State Institution would be at around $70 billion. The ridiculous cost of higher education, paperwork staffing, financial deals and the misuse of the NCAA by professional sports has put the burden on the family and student.  All private educational systems should no longer get Federal, State or Local financial aid.  All money should be directed to State institutions so that no student should pay for higher education.  This will save over $200 billion per year, just on paperwork and staffing.

Get rid of Oil for Automobiles

Eliminating oil once and for all in the United States. Spend $85 Billion on converting all US automobiles to electric, hybrid, hydrogen, bio diesel and other alternative fuel.  After the conversion has completed its 5 year turn around, any automobile should be taxed $12000 a year that chooses not to convert.

Go Wind

Spend $1.72 Billion on each state to convert to wind power.

No Commercials

Stop all Commercials on radio, television and on the internet.  The cost of maintaining the FCC to ‘regulate’ what viewers can or cannot watch.  Other countries, including the UK do not have that kind of regulation or commercials dominating the airwaves.  Why do US citizens pay for television service that have commercials?  Would you buy a home with constant advertisements in every room? Would you pay for an automobile that constantly puts advertisements on the dash or back of seats?

Tell Box Stores Goodbye

No longer allow franchise box stores to expand across the nation.   It is time that local business survive.  Each state should be given an allotted amount (based on per population, not square miles) to start small businesses for local exchange.

If there is a boxed store, restaurant, franchise in the area the money goes to creating local small industries to slowly dissolve the boxed industries.  If there is a need start the business.

This will create a local economy, create jobs, and re-open main street.

Trains and Transportation

Reopen all the freight only train tracks to passenger trains.  It is time for bring back the train.  The United States has limited passenger tracks but the reality is there is more than triple tracks available for more passenger routes.

Put $85 million into passenger trains using the existing tracks.  It not only will create jobs, open up transportation options and the US has the least amount of passenger railways compared to many countries. In fact; China, India, Japan, Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, South Korea, Pakistan, Indonesia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom all have more passenger rail trains than the United States.

Fact: United States is dead last in using train as a major transportation option, mainly due removal of passenger trains, selling track to Canada, and removing support for passenger rails to Detroit automobile industry.

Rumor: AIG is going to be sold anyway and still in debt over 10.1 billion.  So, we saved a company that believes in loaning to themselves is a solution.

There are much better ways to spend our tax dollar, lets do the right thing.
