If you need an email gadget, just email, Peek is just the thing for you. John Tantum, was the founder and president of Virgin Mobile USA and his team from Virgin Mobile bring you Peek. This small compact email reader is the solution or alternative to those who only use one single function on their existing electronic or they would like to have a separate email for work, personal or family.
Peek is a super thin and stylish device that lets you take your email with you and stay connected. With Peek service you get unlimited email for a flat, low monthly rate. Totally easy.
What you get (besides the obvious):
- Full keyboard (not-fullsize)
- Slim, fits in the palm of your hand
- Scroll navigation system (like the Blackberry)
- Access up to three email accounts on your Peek (why just three)
- Nationwide coverage (not international)
- Compatible with most major email providers including HOTMAIL!!!!
- Hassle-free â’“ No contracts, no credit checks, no activation fees â’“ ever!
- Unlimited email for a flat monthly rate
- Carrying Case, designed exclusively for Peek by Timbuk2 (I love Timbuk2)
Peek is running under the operating system Peekux with 8MB of user memory. 8 MB of memory is not allot considering the near future there will be browser capabilities.
Initially, Peek will be focused on providing access to email. Weâ’re constantly looking at future features so stay tuned for browser functionality.

- Getting all that junk mail priceless
Concerns:
- Junk mail, spam and other intrusive emails.
- There is not any Peekware that will eliminate or catch emails. You will get it all!!! So, if you are used to using Hotmail or Google, check your junk mail. How much do you get daily? I get allot, and I mean allot of crap, but Google and Hotmail automatically put it all neatly in a ‘junk folder’ which I can ignore. There isn’t any mention of the junk mail in the FAQs.
- Peek currently supports displaying image attachments that are sent in JPEG format.
- Nothing else is supported including PDF, Office type documents or even simple GIF images.
- Looking throught FAQs I do not see if HTML is supported in viewing emails.
- I get emails with links nicely formatted through my Thunderbird and Outlook. If I converted my mail to strictly text . . . e-ugly. I do not want to see ‘http// . . . ‘ nor ‘img src . . .’
- Doesn’t pass the mother test.
- It is not 508 compliant
- Too small of a screen for my mother’s eyes and can’t be adjusted for elderly eyes
- Memory
- At least put an expansion slot.
- Copy Only
- Peek gets only a COPY of the email. If you are relying on Peek for all your email it will eventually crash your server and no more email.
- Which means if you delete it on the Peek it will not delete on the email server.
- When you go online (from a computer) you will see all that email Peek sent you, minus the junk. Good reading.
Who would get Peek or who should get Peek?
- Technical people.
- If you are like me with servers to watch over . . . setting your pinging software to alert your emai of a failed ping.
- Support requests . . . setting up your support requests (in house). This small device will keep you looking too dorky.
- Travelers
- Do you live out of your RV but not always access to a wifi, this might do the trick.
- Cheaters
- For only $19.99 / monthly fee you can make sure you keep in touch with all your flings. No pesky desktop that wife can hack.
- Paranoid Individuals
- No desktop to check email and it is all yours.
- Anyone
- The Peek can be easily hidden, including taking test, monitoring those taking tests, driving a bus, and so on . . . small enough to be dangerous.
Final Thoughts:
If you would like this . . . wait. Wait for more memory, browser and the technical gurus work out the kinks and concerns I mentioned. If you have to have an email device now . . . just add the $15.00 / monthly fee your cell phone provider will charge for unlimited data. Cheaper than Peek and no $99.95 for the Peek.
