Commodore Vic-20

I received my first computer around 1980. It was a Commodore Vic-20 with a cassette drive. Later, in 1985, I saved my lawn mowing money and upgraded to a Commodore 64 with a 1541 disk drive. In 1994 I purchased my first computer with the Microsoft Windows operating system. Ever since that day, it’s been computers that run the Microsoft Windows operating system. I’ve had them all, Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows 98 (second edition), Windows Xp and Windows Vista. Needless to say, I’ve always developed (professionally) for the Windows platform.

Last year it came to my attention that you can throw a rock down the street and strike a Windows developer. What the world lacks is Apple developers. That’s right, Apple developers as in the Apple computer company. So, for almost a year now I’ve been working on my Apple developer skills. What have I done to develop these skills? First, I attended an Apple OS X Server Essentials boot camp. Second, I’ve been admining 2 XServes, 1 XRaid and a Fiber Network at work. Nothing like a trial by fire. Third, I’m working on porting a major desktop application from Windows to Apple. Finally, I’m attending Apple’s World Wide Developer Conference 2008 (WWDC08) in San Francisco. I will post my conference schedule, some conference pictures, some comments and of course some reflections. Stay tuned…
